Well, according to a media account, another Florida State Correctional officer has been arrested attempting to smuggle in drugs to the local state prison. Congrats on the prison officials for properly investigating this incident and apparently taking appropriate action.

How would this same type of situation be handled at our local county jail? -(Note: Prisons, such as Tomoka are ran by the Florida State government while Jail are ran by local county governments)- Well, the best way to predict future behavior is to look at past behavior. In the past the county jail appears to bury such incidents - and allow the officer to quietly resign without criminal charges.

We invite you to read some incidents whereas Volusia County officers were caught in similar misconduct and little to no action was applied by county officials

Click here to read about how the Lake County (Florida) Jail handles corrupt correctional officers caught smuggling in contraband - they are fired and criminally charged in the same fashion as Florida State Prison correctional officers - why does Volusia apparently handle these matters differently? - You decide.

Does it appear that the Volusia County Division of Correction (VCDC) has a higher tolerance for such acts of corruption than their Florida State and other local counties peers? Maybe that is because VCDC is a part of the Volusia County Department of Public Protection (VCDPP), the very same DEPARTMENT that seem to have a hard time discovering that several of their Beach Patrol Law Enforcement Officers were engaging in underage sex - that their deputy police chief was busy downloading over 12,000 porn images on county time? - Maybe, this is why the Volusia County Fire Service Division (also a part of VCDPP)failed to timely investigate the alleged sexual harassment of one of their fire fighters - Maybe this better explains why the Volusia County Sheriff Major Case Unit appears to blur facts surrounding jail inmate death investigations? - Maybe this is how a convicted felon was able to work as a correctional officer for twenty years before being discovered? WHAT DO YOU THINK? - Please refer to the below links and review the documents that supports all of these "MAYBEs".
